Optimizing backhaul logistics

Glass globe

For companies that ship products, the supply chain is the backbone. Getting your gear to the right place, at the right time and in the right condition, while making the process as seamless and cost-effective as possible, is key to success in today’s globalized market.

That’s why our recent activity in China is so significant. We’ve partnered up with Sanmina Corporation to enhance our global supply chain process by setting up a new backhaul logistics hub in China’s free trade zone, optimizing freight and logistics and creating major improvements in quality and cost. Located in the Futian Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Shenzhen, China, the facility functions as a hub and consolidation point for supplier parts in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, along with Sanmina’s manufactured products delivered from its Shenzhen factory.

The new center is a fantastic opportunity for us to access the efficient and highly integrated production network that exists in China while also ensuring the lowest possible freight expenditure. It radically enhances the efficiency of our global supply chain, leading to better on-time performance, reduced overheads and improvements in product quality for our customers. The partnership really does offer the best of all worlds. Working closely with Sanmina also enables us to create new synergies and so deliver the best for our customers. It’s about product transformation with optimized transportation – all delivered from our Tier 1 contract manufacturing partner.

At the heart of the new partnership is the passion for continuous improvement and exceeding expectations that we have in common with Sanmina. That shared drive has been fundamental. Their process-oriented approach is helping us to face the challenges of an ultra-competitive global economy while ensuring maximum efficiency. It’s all about ensuring shorter product cycles, more effective inventory management and faster time-to-market. And, with Sanmina’s proficient warehouse management and continuous outgoing inspections at the factory, quality and performance are being enhanced even further.

What’s more, these new efficiencies help us make a real difference in every way that matters. As well as improving cost and quality, the reductions in transport fit perfectly with our commitment to a sustainable future. Optimizing logistics is paramount for sustainability. We’ve demonstrated our commitment to this issue in the past, for example, with our QuEST Forum award win and our work presenting on enhanced supply chain processes at QuEST Forum events around the world. Now this end-to-end logistics model means our team can continue to focus on building a truly connected and sustainable future.
